How to install the Alby wallet

Alby is a lightning wallet that you can install as an extension on your browser.

1. Download the extension

Go to getalby.com and click on the "Add Browser Extension" button.

Follow instructions (might vary depending on your browser).

2. Configure the extension

First you will create a password to protect the browser extension itself. Don't worry about the warning that it cannot be recovered: you can always reset the browser extension and recover access to identity and funds, which are linked to your account (coming next).

3. Create an account at getalby.com

In this step we will create the account that identifies you and holds funds, in other words, the wallet itself. Assuming you don't have an existing wallet to connect, click the Sign up button and proceed to the next screen.

You'll provide an email address and password to create an Alby account. Make sure to protect access to your email account: it will let you recover your funds if you ever forget your Alby password. If you intend to sell products on Zap Road, make sure to create a lightning address: you will need it when setting up shop.

Remember that you have created two separate passwords:

• one for your Alby extension, which will protect access to the wallet if anyone gets access to your browser

• one for your Alby account: this identifies you as the owner of a wallet at getalby.com and will help you maintain access to the funds and indentity provided by that wallet

4. Optional - Top up your wallet

In order to buy products on Zap Road you'll need a little bit of bitcoin in your wallet 😇

Head over to getalby.com and click on the Log in button on the upper right corner. You'll be presented with a dialog from the Alby browser extension, asking for permission to authenticate on your behalf.

You'll be presented with dialogs asking you to Connect and Login. Accept both and you'll first experience authenticating with a lightning wallet, how cool is that!

Now click the Topup button: you'll be presented with a dialog to buy bitcoin through Moonpay, a bitcoin on-ramp. The minimum amount is approximately $30 at the time of writing. Follow the instructions and your wallet will display the funds in roughly 15 minutes!
